In just two weeks myself and seven others will be heading to Africa to meet up with James Baker (our Field Advocate) and Misheck Ruma (Vida Humana AIDS clinic director) in Chimoio Mozambique. I’m preparing for the trip in the ways you would expect. Passport … check! Malaria meds … check! Fully loaded and charged iPod for the 20+ hour plan ride … CHECK! But I am also preparing with a very simple but familiar prayer. A prayer for myself and a prayer for the team. “God. Break our hearts with what breaks your heart.” I am praying that our hearts will be so open and tuned into God’s heart that we will not miss a single moment that makes God weep. I want to be open to the “next steps” God has in mind for me and our church in response to God’s broken heart. I want to feel God’s presence and be God’s presence as we meet with some of the 100+ people who are patients of Vida Humana, the AIDS clinic. I have no idea how God will use me and I admit that this is not the safest prayer to pray. Please keep myself and our team in your prayers. And if you dare, pray the dangerous prayer with me, “God break my heart with what breaks your heart.”
